The Casio Exilim G Action/Sports Camera not so ready for action.
The Exilim G no doubt has the coolest design and look. With its very sleek and stylish looks, the feel of this slim camera is easy to hold while shooting with just one hand and at the same time balancing your surfboard, holding ski poles or a paddle with your other hand.
Learning to use it wasn’t cake walk as I did have to refer to the instruction booklet on the internet for a few things like “how to do continuous shooting” among a few other features. However, I was up on knowing this Exilim G camera in a short time.
While doing sports and shooting your sport too, the continuous mode is always the option you want for still shots. However, the continuous normal speed on this Exilim G camera is worthless because it’s so slow, 3 seconds between each shot.
The continuous high speed is fast at 2.7 shots per second and will take 8 shots max. The Exilim G has two restrictive frustrating drawbacks using the high speed. One – it doesn’t just write onto the SD card after the shots finish. Instead it asks if you want it to write to the card. What’s up with that extra step Casio? Now I’m worried about duck-diving a big wave coming at me fast and I have to do this extra step or I loose the surfer shots I just took. Two – it reduces this Casio waterproof camera from 12.1 megapixels to under 1 megapixel and the quality is poor. I’m almost embarrassed to upload the sport shots onto this website.
The video on this Exilim waterproof camera is the better feature. It has its own designated video button so you don’t have to change up your settings by going thru a menu. I love that! The quality of the HD video is good too! If video is your thing than this Exilim G camera is definitely for you. You can even snap off a still shot while taking video but it will take that second out from your video.
Over all, I would take this Exilim G camera back to the store and get a different make because the Exilim waterproof camera has one very huge drawback; the power shuts off after 5 minutes! It takes over 2 seconds to turn on and shoot and by that time your action opportune shot is done. This Exilim G has a sleep mode, so why Casio couldn’t just have a mode for power to always stay on while it's sleeping is baffling.
I’ll say it again, “The Casio Exilim G Action/Sports Camera not so ready for action.”

3 feet or 10 feet rated camera depth?
For surfing IT DOES NOT MATTER! Even in double overhead surf. My old Pentax WPi of 4 years is only rated to 3 feet and it works fine. I lone it to my friends all the time in big surf. The depths on these cameras are rated after being that deep for 2 or more hours.
Beyond their rated depth they still don't leak, they just simply won't operate.

Shock Proof & Freeze Proof? It matters... not so much for surfing but with other action sports like dirt bike racing if your worried about wiping out or snow skiing in freezing conditions.
Using these cameras with the Surf Camera case in your action sports will greatly increase the protection!

Optical Zoom?
With Video - It matters! You should only use the optical zoom with video because you can not zoom in on your computer with video... Unless you have an expensive edit program... and lots of time.
With Still Shots- It does not matter! (Especially in the water) You will want the widest angle possible with still pictures. The more optical zoom you use the greater chances of a blurry action sports shot and the athleteout of the frame. You can always crop and zoom in on your computer later.

Mega Pixels? It matters. When you're editing your still action sports shots you'll be amazed on how much you can zoom in and crop the action sport shot on your computer.

Weight? It matters. An addtional ounce or two does make a big difference in the feel and comfort in getting a steady action sports shot.

28mm Wide Angel? It matters. It's very difficult sometimes when trying to get an instant last second action sports shot of an athlete coming fast down the line. You'll wind up having a lot of shots with the athlete halfway out the picture. The 28mm wide angle will aliminate much of that.

HD Video? It matters. Specially when your filming a surfer on a nice long wave. 640x480 will take in nice videos but when the surfer gets further away the HD will keep it clearer.
